Lawyer with a focus on IT Law, AI, and Information Management

Information about the Department

The position is located in the legal unit, which is part of the Administrative Office and included in Chalmers' central operational support. Together, the department ensures a legally secure, transparent, and efficient governance of the university's operations and information management. Chalmers' operational support plays a central role in the university's ambition to become an internationally top-ranked university.

Job Description

You will be part of the legal team consisting of seven employees with broad experience and a high degree of collaboration. The team works closely with the operations and conducts active monitoring of the external environment. The need for legal support is significant across many areas of Chalmers, which at times means a high pace of work.

In the role of a lawyer focusing on IT law, AI, and information management, you will have a specialist role and serve as a consultative support to both the operations and colleagues within the legal unit. You will contribute with specialist competence and support the operations in complex matters related to information management, personal data, digitalization, and agreements related to research collaborations.

Examples of Responsibilities:

  • Advisory and expert support in IT law, AI, and data protection, including work with risk and impact assessments.
  • Handle cases concerning the rights of data subjects under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
  • Advisory on the management of research data and the legal aspects related to ethical review.
  • Contract work related to research and education, as well as linked to digitalization and system support.
  • Advisory and handling of cases within administrative law, public access and confidentiality, and education law.
  • Develop internal regulations, guidelines, and policy documents for the university's operations and participate in internal information and training initiatives.
  • Familiarize yourself with new legislation and analyze its significance and impact for Chalmers.
  • Contribute to the development of modern working methods and tools that support the institution's vision and strategy.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with a law degree and several years of work experience as a lawyer. This is a broad and varied assignment where you will work with a range of legal issues within the university's operations. At the same time, you will be one of those who are particularly specialized in data protection issues and particularly specialized in IT law and AI.

In the role of a lawyer, you will have many contacts, both within the organization and with external parties. This means you need to have good collaboration skills, be able to communicate clearly in both speech and writing, and have a pedagogical ability to explain legal issues in an easily understandable way. You work in a structured manner and have the ability to analyze legal issues in relation to the needs of the operations. You are used to prioritizing and planning your work independently.

Excellent skills in spoken and written Swedish and English are a prerequisite. We place great emphasis on your personal qualities and expect you to be able to work independently as well as in a team, and have high integrity and a strong sense of service and responsibility.

Relevant experience in IT law, AI, and information management is highly meritorious. It is also advantageous if you have experience working at a university/college or other public sector organization.
